eBay Description Writing Tips
By Mohamed Jadib
Once you’ve attracted customers to your eBay listing with your title, the next thing is to describe your item in a way that would turn these customers into actual buyers. But what exactly should your description consist of?
think of your description as an actual ad, therefore you should approach it as if you're writing a sales copy. Your goal is to get your customers excited about your products, which is not that easy. But on eBay, if you have A hot product and a great description the buyers almost excite themselves.
Technical Details.
Include as much technical details as you can, including who's the manufacturer, the condition of the item, the size, the time and location where it was made, and anything else you might feel your customer wants to know. Keep in mind that probably most of the customers who’ll be buying your item might be just as knowledgeable if not more about it as you are. This is what they enjoy doing or purchasing and they’re the experts, and you should treat them as such. Don’t feel like you have to memorize everything about your item: just give as much technical detail as you can. As a rule of thumb, never write anything in your eBay description that you don't know the meaning of because chances are someone does, and if you get it wrong you will look like you don't know what you're talking about.
Interesting Details.
It might be particularly helpful to talk about how you got the item, why you're putting it up for sale, and who you think might be interested. This is not absolutely necessary, but it gives your auctions some emotional character and a personal touch. It makes people connect with you in a way and therefore trust you. People might wonder why you’re selling 500 CDs at a time, but if you tell them the reason, they’ll feel reassured that nothing shady is going on. If you’re selling the CDs because you’re having a baby and you don't have much space, just say so.
Put more pictures in your auction description
When I sell items on eBay I like to put a lot of extra pictures on my auction pages. In addition to the one picture provided with the listing I like to link to additional pictures hosted on my server. I just put the links in my auction page HTML. Pictures are very effective in selling your item. Try to take pictures from different angels, and make sure your images are clear as far as contrast and background colors.
Be as thorough as you can.
Don't leave anything out of your auction description, even if it seems to you like you're making it too long. you can never be too thorough, somebody out there will appreciate that you took the time to be so descriptive. I have seen some eBay auctions where the seller has a line or two in the description. As a buyer I wouldn't be too motivated to buy that item, simply because I need to know more about what I'm buying.
Don’t assume that whoever needs extra information will simply email you to get it, many buyers are shy and won't take the time out to do it. Or they're just simply lazy and will move on to the next listing, Think of questions that your customers might want to ask and incorporate the answers into your description, as customers generally tend to ask similar questions over and over again.
In conclusion, your eBay auction description is probably the most important part in your offer. Give it enough attention and you should achieve better sales. Just think that you are buying the item and what would you like to know about it before buying it. With the right product and the right demand for it and a proper description sales become a natural outcome.
Good luck with your eBay selling, and don't forget to describe that product thoroughly.
