What is the Income Potential on eBay?

By Ahmed Nassar

Making good income selling on eBay is a dream for a lot of people, and a reality for quite some others. It all depends on what are you selling, what's the demand for it, and what's your profit margin. People who succeed selling on eBay found their niche, in which they can profitably offer buyers what they want. The process of making a stable income from any business is a long term and involved process. That's why if you come across any overly hyped information on the internet, beware and always use your common sense. In this article, I will highlight some facts about making an income selling on eBay. I will discuss the income potential and how you can make it a reality for you and your business if you want.

I'm sure you've heard about how much some people are making on eBay. It isn’t unusual to hear of people making thousands of dollars per month. Ever noticed how many PowerSellers exist on eBay? There are quite a few. Now consider this, eBay’s requirement for becoming a PowerSeller is to be making at least $1000. Silver PowerSellers make at least $3,000 each month, while Gold PowerSellers make more than $10,000, and the Platinum level is $25,000. The top ranking is Titanium PowerSeller, and to qualify you must make at least $150,000 in sales every month!

The fact that these people exist gives you some idea of the income possibilities available on eBay. Many of those PowerSellers probably started very small, and grew as they went along. There are plenty of people whose full-time job is selling things on eBay, and some of them have been doing it for years. Just imagine this, once these Power Sellers have bought the merchandise, everything else is pretty much pure profit for them – they don’t need to pay for any business premises, staff, or anything else. There are multi-million dollar businesses making less in actual profit than some eBay PowerSellers make.

Even if you sell on eBay part-time, you can still make a nice secondary income besides your current one. You can, for example, set your auctions to end on Thursdays and Fridays, and then take them down to the post office for delivery on weekends. There are few other things you could be doing with your spare time that have anywhere near that kind of earning potential. Especially for the amount of time, and effort involved.

EBay like the internet itself is a great equalizer, because it allows ordinary people to have a chance of making a decent income. eBay doesn’t care who you are, where you live, or what you look like. PowerSeller demography goes across the spectrum, some people are very old, and others are very young. Some live out in the middle of nowhere where selling on eBay is one of the few alternatives to farming or being very poor. EBay tears down the barriers to earning a good income that might be hard in the real world for some people. There’s no job interview and no commuting involved – if you can post things, you can do it.

Let's put it this way, if you can get a product that you can get for a competitive price, and then you can be making money selling it on eBay. You can get a lot of products at real wholesale prices that will give you a nice margin to work with. Usually, that is true if you buy bulk wholesale, and of course where are you buying it from too. Some might say that you can make money drop shipping, but I believe that the real money is made when you buy bulk wholesale from the right source.

If you want to dip your toe in the water before you commit to actually buying anything, then you can just sell things that you’ve got lying around at home. That's how a lot of those Powersellers started anyways. Search through that cupboard of stuff you never use, and you’ll probably find you’ve got a few hundred dollars worth of stuff lying around in there! This is the power of eBay, there is always someone who wants what you’re selling, whatever it might be, and since they’ve come looking for you, you don’t even need to do anything to get them to buy it.

So you were wondering what the income potential on eBay is. Here you have it, the opportunity is there, and the demand is there. Just think what kind of demand you can supply products too. As a rule of thumb, when starting stay away from overly crowded competitive markets, such as consumer electronics. Start thinking about products that you already know about or products you like. Make sure there is sufficient existing demand for any product you consider selling on eBay. And last, but not least make sure you have somewhere where you can get that product at real wholesale prices. Making money on eBay is the same as any other business; you need to have the right product or idea that offers you a good profit margin.

Best wishes selling on eBay!
